The Vice President, Secretary Henry Cisneros, Secretary Lloyd Bentsen, Attorney General Janet Reno, and Director of Drug Policy Lee Brown briefed the media today on “Operation Safe Home” and the campaign to reduce crime in public housing. “Operation Safe Home” focuses on fighting violent crime in public housing, white-collar crime, and housing equity skimming. The group said it will propose to the Congress a new initiative entitled “Community Partnership Against Crime” which will focus new resources in these settings. Media questions covered these topics: securing funding for the President’s proposals in the crime bill; reducing the federal deficit; keeping nonresidents out of public housing projects; and distributing the funds for “Operation Safe Home.” close
