The Senate Banking Committee heard testimony about the Clinton administration’s reorganization plan. Under the proposal, banking regulation would be consolidated into a five member federal banking commission headed by the Treasury secretary. The Comptrollers Office and the Office of Thrift would also be part of the commission. The "fed", and the federal deposit insurance corporation would lose their authority to regulate state chartered banks. Alan Greenspan, the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, and the acting heads of the Office of Thrift Supervision, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation offer their views, and counterproposals. close
