Secretary of Labor Bob Reich, Chair of the Council of Economic Advisors Laura Tyson, and Director of the National Economic Council Bob Rubin briefed the media and took questions today on the economy. Secretary Reich indicated that in the last 13 months the economy created 90,000 jobs over the two million mark. During that same time, the employment rate dropped from 7.7 percent in January 1993 to 6.5 percent in February 1994. Private sector job growth now averages 146,000 per month, as compared to 20,000 per month in the previous 4 years. Secretary Reich advised that, although jobs are coming back, the Administration is sensitive to the fact that 8.5 million Americans are still without jobs. close
