Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de Leon gives an acceptance speech after he was chosen on Tuesday to be the new presidential candidate for the Institutional Revolutionary Party in Mexico. Mr. Zedillo, an economist with a doctorate from Yale University and a former Education Secretary replaces assassinated presidential candidate Luis Donaldo Colosio. Mr. Colosio was expected to win the election scheduled for August 21st, in part because the Institutional Revolutionary Party, known as PRI (pree) has ruled Mexico for 65 years. Mr. Zedillo, who is running against two other presidential candidates has never held elective office. He is expected to continue President Carlos Salinas' policies of economic and political reform. Mr. Zedillo is introduced by Fernando Ortiz Arana, PRI’s president, who was considered another possible presidential contender. The Mexican presidential election will be held on August 21st. The other parties fielding candidates are the Democratic Revolutionary Party and the Nation close
