President Bill Clinton participated in a televised town meeting with citizens from Charlotte, North Carolina and surrounding areas. The event originated from WCNC-TV studios in Charlotte. In opening remarks, the President discussed his goals for 1994: continue the economic renewal; proceed with more deficit reduction; improve the political system via the lobby reform law; improve the public school system; reform the welfare and health care systems; and pass the Crime Bill. Questions from citizens focused on these topics: key principles of the Crime Bill; funding for the health care plan and concern over the plan’s key principles; the Administration’s initiatives for improving the public education system; the issue of prayer in public schools; the President’s credibility in light of the Whitewater allegations and the First Lady’s cattle futures earnings; the President’s plan for dealing with the Pacific Northwest forest/environmental issue; the increase in long- and short-term interes close
