Japanese Prime Minister, Morihiro Hosokawa announced his resignation at a news conference. Mr. Hosokawa came under attack from the opposition Liberal Democratic Party over his financial affairs. He said he was forced to step down because the investigation into the allegations delayed approval of his government’s budget. He answered reporters questions afterwards.
