A Senate Appropriations subcommittee convened a hearing on welfare reform. Members of the Labor, Health and Human Services Subcommittee met today to take a closer look at some successful state welfare programs and discuss how they could be integrated in national welfare refrom. Among those testifying were the directors of the welfare offices in Iowa, Utah, Missouri. The subcommittee also heard from Mary Jo Bane assistant Health and Human Services secretary. She discussed President Clinton’s welfare reform proposal. close
