The Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, chaired by Ohio Democrat John Glenn, held a hearing to examine unfunded mandates. In particuliar the committee looked at various proposals now before Congress, designed to ease the impact of unfunded mandates on state and local governments. Witnesses included Nebraska Governor Ben Nelson and Mayor Richard Daley of Chicago. Currently there are eight separate proposals pending before the Government Affairs Committee related to unfunded mandates. close
