NAACP Executive Director Benjamin Chavis marked the 40th anniversary of the Brown vs. Board of Education Supreme Court decision which knocked down the concept of “separate but equal” in the nation’s public school systems. Mr. Chavis discussed America’s public education and racial integration. Brown vs. Board of Education was the Supreme Court case decided in 1954 that found the doctrine of separate but equal education to be unconstitutional. The late Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall argued the case on behalf of the NAACP before he was appointed to the Supreme Court. close
