Representative David Bonior (D-MI) briefed the media on China’s Most Favored Nation trade status. On Monday, various news organizations reported that Secretary of State Warren Christopher had completed his analysis of China’s human rights record, and prepared to brief President Clinton whether or not to renew the status with China. The president had until June 3rd to decide that issue. Rep. Bonior urged the president not to renew the status due to China’s continued human rights violations through political oppression, torture, and imprisonment of Chinese citizens. close
