Representative Mickey Kantor informed the media today that the United States and Japan have resumed the framework negotiations. Kantor said President Clinton spoke by phone with Prime Minister Hata, congratulating him on the “hard and effective work of his negotiators, and also for the personal efforts of the Prime Minister.” The Prime Minister and the President had a good and thorough conversation about the framework. They both agreed this shows that they can resolve issues and strengthen the relationship between the two countries, and that it will boost confidence between the two countries to move in the right direction. close
