Jan Scruggs, President of Vietnam Veterans of America, called a press conference to announce the purchase of several tons of Indian black granite to be used in the gradual replacement of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. He stated that the three and one-half inch granite is beginning to crack from its own weight and must be replaced during the coming decades. Following his statement, the architects and fund leaders spoke about the wall and its repair. close
