In his address to Poland’s President, Prime Minister, and other representatives of the Polish people, President Clinton emphasized that the course for the future must be guided by three principles--supporting democracy, advancing free markets, and meeting new security challenges. Speaking from the Parliament Building in Warsaw, the President stated, “Free markets and democracy remain the only proven path to prosperity and to peace. You must hold hard to those tracks. Sustain the civil courage that has brought you so far so fast, and do not give up or turn back.” The President assured Polish government officials that the United States will continue to support their nation, and he announced new initiatives designed to aid the Polish economy. close
