After touring flood damaged areas in Georgia, President Clinton announced that the federal government would provide an additional package of over $60 million in relief funds and loans to Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. FEMA will make available over $11.5 million to clean up debris, provide emergency shelter and clean water, and utilize sandbags where necessary to hold back waters. The Department of Labor will allocate $4 million to provide jobs for workers who have been dislocated by the flood and who are willing to participate in cleanup efforts. The Secretary of Transportation will provide over $12 million immediately to help repair the damage to federal highways. HUD will provide $38 million in loans to replace some of the destroyed homes. HUD also will set aside up to $10 million in housing vouchers.
