Speaking in the Miami Beach Convention Center, Miami, Florida, President Clinton commended the leadership of Henry Cisneros as Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, recognised President Raul Yzaguirre of La Raza and other officials present, and remarked on the future of the 21st century, as an “America where Hispanic leadership anchors its place in boardrooms, schoolrooms and all the halls of power, in which Hispanic Americans will be sought out as leaders among opinion shapers and policymakers.” After pointing to Hispanic American contributions and to Hispanic Americans in the Administration, the President discussed his Administration’s efforts to “make the American Dream a possibility for all our citizens.” He described oncoming future pieces to the agenda: education reform, AmeriCorps, the crime bill, welfare reform, and health care. close
