Following a meeting with the president and the first lady, Democratic leaders spoke with the press outside the White House, concerning the president’s health care reform legislation. Senator Mitchell made a short statement outlining the objectives of the Democratic leadership and the work toward similar legislation. The announcement, which came after a late night meeting with the president, indicates that the Democratic leadership is abandoning the president’s “bureacratic” health care reform legislation in favor of a “less-bureacratic” plan which has a better chance of congressional support. close
