Secretary of State Warren Christopher discussed and took questions on the significance of the Washington Declaration, signed today by Prime Minister Rabin of Israel and King Hussein of Jordan. He explained that, in accordance with the Declaration, both sides have agreed to accelerate their negotiations toward a full peace between the parties. The Secretary said the Declaration unlocks the “enormous potential” for economic cooperation between the two countries and improves the environment for a comprehensive and lasting peace in the region. He added that the White House will “make every effort” to work toward that end with all of the countries of the region. close
