From the White House East Room, President Clinton, Prime Minister Rabin of Israel, and King Hussein of Jordan briefed the media and took questions on their meetings. The president reported that the King and Prime Minister appeared jointly before Congress, during which they discussed their common vision of cooperation. The president said he assured Prime Minister Rabin that as Israel moves forward in the peace process the United States will help ensure its security. The president said he reaffirmed to King Hussein his determination to assist Jordan in dealing with its burden of debt and its defense requirements. In addition, the president stated that he reaffirmed to President Assad of Syria his personal dedication to achieving a comprehensive peace. The president stood in front of a center podium and took several of the questions. Prime Minister Rabin and King Hussein stood on either side of the president. close
