The two-week long schedule of House and Senate hearings includes several White House officials and Department of Treasury personnel. The administration’s witnesses voluntarily gave up their right to claim executive privilege and answered questions in the limited congressional investigation. In this session, Senator Donald Riegle, D-Michigan and Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee gaveled in with a variety of witnesses, Eugene Ludwig, Comptroller of the Currency opened by stating that it was time to clear the air and get the facts out. Joel Klein, Deputy Counsel to the President, claimed his only direct involvement in the so called White House/Treasury contacts was a phone call from Neil Eggleston. close
