In his radio address from the Roosevelt Room, President Clinton asserted that health care reform and the Crime Bill are “crucial” to the mission of renewing the American dream. The President said we must fix what’s wrong with our health care system and guarantee private, not government, health insurance for all Americans. On the Crime Bill, the President warned that the National Rifle Association and some other interest groups opposed to the assault weapons ban are pressuring members of Congress to kill the bill “in a trick maneuver.” The President emphasized that the ban on assault weapons was won fairly, and that no “parliamentary trick” should reverse that result and jeopardize the rest of the Crime Bill. “No one should play any more political games with our nation’s safety,” he said. close
