President Clinton addressed the press regarding Congress' shelving of the Crime Bill. He expressed disappointment and dismay at the House action, saying they “have failed the American people.” Clinton challenged House Members to come back “tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that...until we give the American people the essential elements of this crime bill...” Questions included a query as to the future of the bill; whether Clinton plans to keep the Congress in session until they act upon the bill; specific complaints made by opposition; and his response to those who say this is a personal defeat. close
