Following an introduction by Mayor Giuliani, President Clinton spoke

about the House defeat of the rule for the Crime Bill which prevented

a floor vote on the legislation. In his remarks, he referred to the

House’s rejection of the Crime Bill as a "procedural trick

orchestrated by the National Rifle Association and intensely promoted

by the Republican congressional leadership." He also assured the

group that he will continue to fight for the legislation’s passage. close
