They also talked about the effects that the Freeport debate had on the career of Senator Douglas and the presidential election of 1860. Professor Robert Johannsen discussed the personal traits of Senator Douglas and his political career. Telephone lines were also opened and spectators and participants were interviewed for their reactions to the debate. Mandy Hill was a C-SPAN Lincoln-Douglas Essay winner. close
