White House Chief of Staff Leon Panetta and Attorney General Janet Reno talked to the audience of law enforcement officers to thank them for their support, and to cover the specifics of implementing the crime legislation. President Clinton cited the ban ban on juvenile possession of handguns as one of the most important provisions of the bill, and he directed the U.S. attorneys to prepare a plan in their districts for enforcing this law over the next 100 days. The President also focused on the bill’s provisions for serious and violent crimes and repeat offenders. Then two other Justice Department officials made very brief remarks. close
