Cokie Roberts and Charlie Gibson hosted the tribute to House Minority Leader Robert Michel of Illinois. First elected to Congress in 1957, Representative Michel served in World War II, and then earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bradley University in his hometown of Peoria, Illinois. He was voted Republican whip twenty years ago, and then minority leader in 1980. President Bill Clinton and Speaker of the House Thomas Foley (D-WA) are included in the speakers. close
