President Clinton, Senator Bob Dole (R-Kansas) and other congressional leaders spoke at a farewell tribute to Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell (D-Maine). The President called Sen. Mitchell a true leader, one who tries to achieve what he believes is right. He added that the senator “never lost the common touch,” and that he retained the trust and confidence of the people who sent him to office. Sen. Mitchell recognized his immigrant parents who believed that “here in America, everybody has a chance.” close
