President Bill Clinton, Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy, and Rep. Markey addressed the crowd at a campaign rally. Their remarks concerned the Democratic party platform for the midterm elections, the Republican responses, and the president’s record for his first 20 months in office. In particular, President Clinton encouraged area residents to avoid cynicism and skepticism and to believe in their country. He asked that they help him keep the country moving forward, and that they help to reelect Senator Kennedy. “Let us not go back to the contract our opponents have offered,” he said. close
