Following the October 25th question time, the prime minister had given a speech on standards in public life. He announced the establishment of an independent standards commission under the chairmanship of a Lord of Appeal, a post similar to a U.S. Supreme Court Justice. The commission will investigate current allegations of impropriety in the government and serve as a permanent watch-dog. Prime Minister Major answered questions on a variety of topics, including the governmental scandal and the new commission. close
