Following prepared remarks announcing that the Clinton administration is considering the minimum wage, which has been at $4.25 an hour since 1991, Labor Secretary Reich and Ms. Tyson answered questions from the press. Labor Secretary Reich lobbied for a 50 cent increase in 1993, but droped the initiative that October, saying that the administration had decided to concentrate on Health Care Reform. Republicans have said that they are opposed to the proposal. Congress would have to approve any hike in the minimum wage. close
