Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. Chicago un-Times Basil Talbott reviewed the week’s Capitol Hill activities. In the newspaper roundtable, Esquire Magazine columnist Walter Shapiro and American Spectator columnist Ben Stein discussed headlines from various newspapers across the country. Via telephone, Mr. Franklin talked about a story, that would come out in The Economist the next day, on what President Clinton should say in his State of the Union address. In the final segment, Representatives Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) and Bill Richardson (D-NM) discussed U.S. loan guarantees to Mexico. close
