President Bill Clinton addressed the Democratic National Committee. In his remarks, the president covered the following topics: the defeat of Democrats in the November midterm elections; his attempt to make government less bureaucratic and more creative; and his desire for Republicans to join in government reform. The president’s notion of government reform include these efforts: reducing government spending; streamling government; dealing with the problem of illegal immigration in the United States; responding to the crime problem; reforming the welfare state; providing tax relief to working people; and passing the Middle Class Bill of Rights. close
