The president, vice president and administration economic officials talked to reporters about the administration’s budget proposal for fiscal year 1996. They focused on the budget cuts and priorities which further the administration’s broad economic goals. The economic advisers also took questions from reporters. In his remarks, president told reporters the budget is the next important step in the coordinated economic strategy to bring discipline back to government and to help strengthen the American Dream for all citizens. He said the budget is based on the New Covenant, which offers opportunities to those who take responsibility for themselves, their families, and their communities. The President said the centerpiece of the budget is the Middle Class Bill of Rights. He added that, in this third year of the economic strategy, the administration is adding $81 billion more to deficit reduction. close
