Administration officials briefed the media today on the president’s memorandum directing U.S. agencies to move forward with new initiatives to gain control of the U.S. border and better enforce U.S. immigration laws. The group also discussed a series of border patrol operations that have and will continue to make a “tremendous impact” on the Southwest border. President Clinton’s 1996 budget call for an additional $1 billion to help protect workers' rights, remove criminal aliens, aid border states and the border patrol. close
