President Bill Clinton and Education Secretary Richard Riley spoke about the federal government’s role in education. President Clinton warned that Republican education proposals will cut investments in our future and increase the cost of student loans to our neediest students to fund tax cuts for the wealthy. He said these proposals will limit the availability of lower cost direct loans to middle-class students to increase profits for the middlemen, and that they will not reinvent the Department of Education to make it a stronger voice. close
