Vice President Gore spoke to the G-7 ministers meeting on the Global Information Initiative (GII). The vice president reviewed the principles that are the building blocks of the GII: private investment; competition; open access; universal service; and flexible regulations. He also discussed ways to ensure that our economies provide enough jobs. The vice president noted that those nations best able to adopt the new technologies for a knowledge-based economy have been the best at creating jobs. He told the G-7 ministers that they can open markets to create job opportunities and use education and training to enable more workers to adapt to the new workplace. close
