In the eighth of ten “Character Above All” lectures examining the character and leadership of presidents of the past 50 years, Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin discussed the life and presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt. She focused on his self-confidence and his empathy for ordinary Americans, and how these qualities contributed to his presidency. She also talked about the complex personal relationships at the White House during the World War II years. After her remarks, she took questions from the audience. close
