A C-SPAN produced program examined current news events and political issues through reviews of the morning newspapers, interviews with journalists and legislators, and viewer telephone comments. In the first segment, Washington Bureau Chief for the Hartford Courant David Lightman reviewed the week in Washington, including controversy over affirmative action. Later in a point-counterpoint discussion, Donald Haines, counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union and Pat Trueman, lobbysit for the American Families Association, discussed free speech and pornography issues on the information superhighway. In the newspaper roundtable, Jesse Jackson Jr., of the Rainbow Coalition and Michael Sununu, of the National Republican Congressional Committee, reviewed current topics including affirmative action and deficit reduction. C-SPAN’s Lew Ketcham hosted the program. close
