Mr. McCurry reported that President Tudgman met today with Vice President Gore and State Department officials to review the current status of discussions about the U.N. presence in Croatia. The vice president reaffirmed U.S. support for Tudgman’s continuing participation in the Bosnia-Croatian Federation and urged him to continue to use his good offices to minimize conflict and try to avoid any further hostilities in the Balkans. Mr. McCurry stated that President Clinton met briefly today with Prime Minister Bruton. The two leaders reviewed the peace process and the status of several U.N. peacekeeping missions. The president stated that it is important to continue with efforts at reform at the United Nations, including peacekeeping operations and administrative functions. Mr. McCurry noted that Tony Lake met briefly this morning with Gary McMichael, leader of the Ulster Democratic Party to review the status of the peace process.
