The House-Senate Budget Conference Committee held a hearing to work out budget differences between the two measures. The House budget-cutting proposal contains more than a trillion dollars in spending cuts, including a $350 billion tax cut. The Senate version is slightly less and does not have an immediate tax cutting provision. Both measures would attempt to balance the federal budget by 2002.
