The House-Senate Budget Conference Committee held a hearing to work out budget differences between the two measures. The House budget-cutting proposal contains more than a trillion dollars in spending cuts, including a $350 billion tax cut. The Senate version is slightly less and does not have an immediate tax cutting provision. Both measures would attempt to balance the federal budget by 2002. Senator Pete Domenici R-New Mexico and Representative John Kasich, R-Ohio, were the Co-Chairs. close
