In a hearing titled “A 21st Century Hearing on the 21st Century Economy,” the committee explored the role of government in telecommunications, technology, and the information age. Joel Kotkin, Senior Fellow, Progressive Policy Institute testified from Los Angeles, Paul Johnson, Historian from London, Steve Forbes, Editor Forbes Magazine from New York, and Rep. Walker from Ephrata, Pennsylvania, all via digital telephone and video lines. It was the first such use in a congressional committee of complete interactive technology, including questions submitted electronically by persons following the hearing “on-line.” Brenda French, Founder, French Rags Clothing testified from Los Angeles, and Robert Genetski, Economist from Chicago. close
