Senators debated two amendments that concerned the Ethics Committee investigation into sexual harassment allegations against Senator Bob Packwood. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-California) called for public hearings into the charges and Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) called for leaving the matter to the committee. The Senate defeated the Boxer amendment and approved the McConnell amendment. close
