Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Rich talked about current news topics, including Social Security. Mr. Certner talked about popular attitudes toward Social Security. In the newspaper roundtable, Mr. McCarthy and Ms. Parshall discussed current news topics and political issues. In the next segment, four participants debated the merits of the current Social Security system and how it should be changed. In the last segment, Mr. Thompson talked about the Social Security Administration’s main functions and took specific questions from callers about the administration. close
