The C-SPAN produced program examined “Madsen v. Women’s Health Center,” the U.S. Supreme Court which ruled that 36-foot buffer zones located on public property surrounding abortion clinics do not infringe on anti-abortion protestor’s First Amendment rights and are constitutional. The program began with a brief history of Pensacola, Florida, and its citizens. The program featured a WKRG-TV video summary of Pensacola clinic violence and a WEAR-TV video profiled the Pensacola Mayor’s Task Force on Community Core Values, which was formed following the 1994 murders of Dr. John Britton and James Barrett, his bodyguard. Taskforce members spoke on their role in containing the violence. In the final segment, pro-choice and pro-life legal experts Judith Appelbaum and Jim Henderson discussed the future of abortion clinic violence and the courts with moderator Lew Ketcham. close
