Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Eisle discussed his role as editor of The Hill and previewed the issues facing Congress after the August recess. In the newspaper roundtable, Mr. Grann and Ms. Galbert talked about the morning headline stories. Senator Dole was interviewed in Jackson, New Hampshire on a recent campaign tour. In separate interviews, Mr. Gaffney and Mr. Mendelsohn talked about the significance of an upcoming Senate debate on missile defense systems. Ms. Stephenson and Mr. Karmin described putting The Hill newspaper together. The Hill publisher Tolchin provided an overview of the year-old newspaper. Mr. Schwartz and Mr. Crowley discussed the art of writing and drawing about politics. Mr. Crowley participated by telephone. close
