Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Ms. Carney talked about current news stories, especially the current Senate debate over welfare reform. In a live telephon interview, Mr. Farragher talked about Rep. Mineta’s decision to resign to become a vice president at Lockheed. In the newspaper roundtable, Mr. Cohen and Mr. Lambro talked about current news stories and whether there is bias in the media. In the point-counterpoint segment, Senator Gorton and Jewell Praying Wolf James and debated cuts in federal programs for Native Americans. In the next segment, Reverend Sharpton talked about the upcoming gathering outside Justice Thomas' house to protest his recent decision in cases bearing on civil rights.
