Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Ms. Jones talked about current headlines, including the Senate’s continuing debate over welfare reform. Mr. Sherman talked about the Georgia legislature’s failure to alter its congressional districts after a Supreme Court decision ruled the current system unconstitutional. In the newspaper roundtable, Representatives Riggs and Reed talked about current news stories, including welfare reform and the crime bill. In a brief taped interview talked about the Library of Congress' McKinley collection surrounding his assassination. In the next segment, Reps. Horn and Maloney talked about their legislation that makes it easier for the U.S. government to collect unpaid non-tax revenues.
