Forum on U.S. and global national security issues hosted by Newsweek Magazine. Deputy Defense Secretary John White talked about priority changes within the Defense Department. After his prepared remarks, Secretary White took questions from the audience. Then a panel that included Former National Security Advisor Brent Scowcroft and International Relations Committee Ranking Member Representative Lee Hamilton (D-IN) speculated on whether the United States is ready for the “new world order.” They described how U.S. national security interests and objectives have changed since the end of the Cold War and how these changes impact U.S. foreign policy and the defense budget. close
