Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Benedetto talked about current stories, including the continuing resolution and the “Contract with America.” In the newspaper roundtable, Professor Ambrose talked about current headlines, including Colin Powell’s possible run for the presidency. In a taped interview, Mr. Agran talked about City Vote, by which voters in several cities will choose presidential candidates when they elect local officials this November. In the next segment, Ms. Norwood talked about the Consumer Price Index and how the federal government uses it. In the point-counterpoint segment, Mr. Rother and Ms. Phillips debated whether Social Security benefits should be linked to the Consumer Price Index. In the last segment, Ms. Fisher talked about her art exhibit near the Capitol. close
