Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers, and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes, and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr. Rieder talked about the media coverage of the O.J. Simpson case. In a live remote interview, Mr. Johnston talked about his role as secretary of the Senate. In the newspaper roundtable, Ambassador Flynn and Ms. Hart discussed current headlines, including the Pope’s visit to the U.S. and the O.J. Simpson case. Ms. Johnson joined the discussion about the Pope’s visit by telephone. In the next segment, Mr. Means talked about his autobiography, “Where White Men Fear to Tread.” In the next segment, Mr. Hewitt talked about the National Taxpayers Union’s BillTally report which details who in Congress sponsors which spending bills. close
