Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Mr.Rodrigue discussed current issues, including the debate over Medicare and Medicaid reform. In the newspaper roundtable, Mr. Nelson and Mr. York discussed current headlines, including the New Hampshire presidential campaign and nursing home regulations. Ms. Collins talked about her interview with the president on 25 July which appears in the latest issue of Good Housekeeping. In a taped interview, Professor Amy talked about his book, Recent Choices/New Voices, which argues for proportional representation elections in the U.S. In the next segment, Rep. Johnson talked about the House Commerce Committee’s markup of the Medicare reform bill. In the last segment, Ms. Harjo talked about Native Americans perspectives on Columbus Day. close
